Armistead

My Armistead clients are finally back in their home after a year long remodel.  It doesn't seem fair to call this project a remodel, because we literally created a new house.  The existing home was totally gutted and two bedrooms were added onto the back.  I knew this 60's gem had amazing potential and I was right!  Trusting clients + a flexible contractor = AMAZING RESULTS

I'm super bummed that I didn't get very many before photos.  But here are a few teasers...

The original floor plan was three bedrooms, two baths and lots of tiny rooms.  Oh, the changes we made to that floor plan.

We literally touched every surface of the existing home and today I'm sharing the new kitchen and bathrooms.  I couldn't be more proud of how it turned out!

Chez Sois {final take}

Almost two years ago, I received this message on Houzz: "Jennifer, I found you on Houzz and like what I see in the photos of your work...I have lots of ideas (on Houzz) about what I'd like to do, but need a good designer with an up-to-date aesthetic to help me expand some ideas and refine others...and just keep me from making those costly mistakes...My style is grounded in traditional, but I've moved away from total traditional to a more European, elegant feel that says "today." I'm single now and want a totally feminine home."

Little did I know what a wonderful and collaborative project this would turn out to be.  I'm always a little nostalgic when a project comes to an end, but this one will always hold a special place in my heart.  Chez Sois was a total renovation and there wasn't a surface we didn't touch.  The result was EXACTLY what my client wanted when she sent that first message to me.  Before you continue, please take a minute to read my first blog post so you can see exactly what we started with.  The transformation is beyond words...

Small Kitchen with Big Style

Jennifer Taylor Design Small is a relative term to many, especially in regards to room size.  I recently completed a kitchen remodeling project that most would consider small as it's only 160 square feet.  The biggest complaint I received from my client wasn't its size, but that it had NO STORAGE!  The pantry closet was only 2 feet x 2 feet and totally packed.  Kitchen items were stored in the laundry room/bathroom and all the small appliances had to be out on the counter.  Plus, my client loves to cook, so most of the appliances needed to be updated.

Now, back to the laundry room/bathroom.  They were one in the same!  I've been doing this for a long time and this was a first for me.  With some careful planning and a contractor who knew how to problem solve, we turned the under utilized carport storage room into a brand new laundry room.  Then, the bathroom got a much needed facelift and you guessed it....storage!  I'm honestly jealous of all those cabinets.

The kitchen layout stayed the same.  We did decide to eliminate the very small eating space and create a bar area for wine and china storage.  Across from that, we did floor to ceiling pantry cabinets to replace that tiny closet.

I'm really proud of how it all turned out and I know the client is happy with it, too!

Nip and Tuck

My Appleton project can best be described as a house that just needed a little nip and tuck.  It was a great house, but just wasn't my client's style.  They brought me in at the very beginning and we made a plan!  This included paint colors, lighting changes, a new bathroom, kitchen updates and some much needed personality.  The biggest structural change was closing in a portion of the ceiling in the family room.  It was open to the second floor and was a total waste of space.  I also saw a ton of potential on the fireplace wall and had to close in that opening as well. What a difference, right?  We closed in the ceiling, added trim and gave the fireplace wall A LOT of personality!  Oh, but wait.  Let's look at the kitchen.  It got some design love as well.  The island was small and not functional; so we replaced it, painted all the cabinets, replaced the counters and added the best tile on the splash.  The tin behind the stove just wasn't working for us.

I don't know what I love more about this project.  My clients were a dream to work with and I can't wait for them to get all moved in.  I also can't wait to share more with you once I take some final photos.

The Latest

School starts Monday and I'm having very mixed feelings about it.  On one hand, I'm ready to get our routine back, but I sure have loved having my boy around so much this summer.  He definitely would be happy if summer was longer!  So, we have bought new shoes, ordered uniforms and are frantically getting through the summer math. Just this week, I've gotten the approval to start three new projects.  It's crazy to think I might finally be in a place to put clients on a waiting list.  What?!  I have finally come to realize I can only do so much and being too busy isn't best for my clients.  With that said, I've got a few larger projects coming to an end and I can't wait to share them with you.  My Bird Dog Point project is almost done.  We are waiting on a few tables to arrive, as well as those last few perfect accessories.  Here are a few progress photos from my last installation...

I've been working on a kitchen renovation these last few months and I can not wait to share the final results!  The before and afters are going to be amazing.  We took a small kitchen and bathroom (that was also the laundry room) and created all brand new spaces.  My client wanted storage and we gave it to her.  Here's a quick before and after shot of one area we totally transformed.  As you can see, it used to be a very tiny eat-in kitchen nook.  We enlarged the opening into her dining room and added new cabinetry. Beautiful and functional storage, with a wine fridge.

My Bucklake project will be gearing back up in a few weeks.  We had a mad rush in June and July preparing for a party my client was having.  We remodeled a powder bath and added tons of wall decor and accessories throughout her main living spaces.  It was tough, but we did it.  The next phase is ordering new furniture for three rooms, as well as window treatments, lighting and rugs.  I will have lots to share with you on this as we finalize all the details.  Here are a few before and after shots from my install last month.

So, there is the latest of what has been going on at JTD.  I'll leave you with a photo from our vacation two weeks ago.  If you are looking for a resort, I highly recommend Hammock Beach on the east coast of Florida.  Our room was nice, Wes loved the pool and I loved the beach.  And having someone bring you drinks and food, while you lounge around wasn't too bad either.
