Millbridge {first look}

It’s been awhile since I’ve introduced a new project on the blog and it will be worth the wait. Our Millstone project started in November with the design phase and the renovation work begins right after Thanksgiving. Here is our scope of work and how the rooms look today:

  • Kitchen…We are keeping most of the cabinets, but replacing all the doors/drawers and changing the color. We’re designing a new island and replacing all the finishes such as counters, backsplash tile and all the lighting. Plus, new furniture.

  • Laundry Room…All the cabinets are being replaced so we can maximize the storage. Floors are changing to brick pavers and the backsplash tile is so fun. Plus, new counters and a farm sink.

  • Master Bathroom…This room is getting the most dramatic change! Everything is being replaced and I can’t wait to show you what we have planned for the tub alcove.

  • Family Room…All the brown furniture is going and is being replaced with upholstery that is covered in shades of blue and green. And the “utter” light is definitely changing.

Here are some of our inspiration plans and ideas for the kitchen. I wanted to give the window wall some much needed personality by installing the tile on the entire thing. My client is having a painting done of her favorite backyard trees, so it has a place of honor with a picture light. In our first presentation, the rendering features some amazing glass shelves in front of each window, but it was “a little too edgy” for one of my clients (his name starts with B) so that was cut early on. He’s also not sold on tiling the entire wall, but I’m still working on him!

One of my favorite things to select for projects is the lighting. Here’s a sampling of what we are using throughout the house. I love seeing all the different shapes and finishes!

Every good room starts with a furniture plan. We are incorporating a few existing pieces, but most everything is new. The top plan is what we first presented, but my client (his name starts with a B) really wanted a recliner. So we adjusted. It’s all about the compromise sometimes!

As I mentioned earlier, we began the design process in November and the demo starts right after Thanksgiving. That’s an entire year! We turned over the design plan in March and it took my client almost five months to secure a contractor. Between their timelines (one couldn’t start for a year), not returning phone calls and pricing - it took forever. But it was worth the wait. I’ll have another update for you soon!

Thanks for Reading!
Jennifer
