FIVE Simple {and Inexpensive} Ideas to Freshen Up Your Bathroom

I am about to begin the last remodeling project at my house later this month. I’m totally gutting my master bathroom and even though I know I will love it when it’s finished, I’m not looking forward to the construction phase. The dust, all the contractors in the house and my poor dog hiding under the bed!

If you are wanting to update your bathroom, but don’t have the time or budget for a total remodel here are some great ways to freshen up your bathroom with a brand new look!

#1 PAINT YOUR CABINETS
Give those tired cabinets a fresh coat of paint by choosing something lighter and brighter. My favorite whites are all by Sherwin Williams - Pure White, Snowbound and Alabaster. Or if you are want something fun, consider a color. Naval by Sherwin Williams is a great dark blue and I love Santorini Blue by Ben Moore.

#2 REPLACE THE CABINET HARDWARE
Another great way to update your cabinets is by changing out the hardware. I’m a huge fan of mixing knobs and pulls in one room. My standard “rule” is to use knobs on short doors and pulls on tall doors. For the drawers, it depends on the size. If you have a wider drawer front, a pull looks better. If you have more of a square front drawer (as pictured above) then a knob looks best.

#3 INSTALL A NEW SHOWER CURTAIN
One of my favorite design hacks is using two ready-made drapery panels as your shower curtain. If you have any sewing skills, you can easily sew them together. Most ready-made shower curtains are 72” wide x 72” tall. By using two 89” long panels, you not only get more length but the width is closer to 100”. For this bathroom, the two panels are gathered on a decorative rod and the plastic liner is on a separate rod behind. A custom look for a fraction of the price!

#4 ADD SOME WALLPAPER
I love pattern, especially in bathrooms. Don’t be afraid of wallpaper! If you install it correctly, I promise it’s super simple to remove later. Be sure to ALWAYS use an exhaust fan when taking hot showers! There are some great budget-friendly options out there and Spoonflower is a great place to start.

#5 USE A DECORATIVE MIRROR
Do you have one of those plate glass mirrors with the metal clips? Then take it down and install a framed mirror. Pretty mirrors can be found most anywhere. Check out Lowe’s, Home Goods or Target for the most options at the best prices. My biggest piece advice is go as big as you can! You are only limited by the width of your cabinet and location of the light fixture.
