a new project

Everett {a new project}

I've been working on a new project called {Everett} and presented the design plan to my clients this week.  They loved everything, so I'm excited to share the direction we are going.  The room used to be a garage that the previous owners turned into a large family room.  My clients have two young children and the husband is a triathlete.  This means, he has to train on his bicycle.  Sometimes inside.  In this room.  It sits on a special rack and is used like a stationary bike.  Pretty cool, but not necessarily a great design feature.  I saw it as a challenge and figured out a way we could "make it work" - insert Tim Gunn from Project Runway reference.  Here is a furniture plan we are considering... Plan D

As you can see from the photos, this room is currently being used for lots of different things - watching television, hanging out, playing with toys, paying bills and exercising.  It's also the family's main entrance (the double doors), so we need to create some sort of drop station for backpacks and jackets.  Wait till you see what I have planned for that!

The flooring is staying, but everything else is changing.  New paint, new window treatments, new furniture and a new light fixture.  Here are a few pieces we are considering, along with the upholstery fabrics for the sofa and chair.  Next week we firm up the selections and get the ordering process going.  If all goes according to plan, this family will have a new room for Christmas!

The Latest

School starts Monday and I'm having very mixed feelings about it.  On one hand, I'm ready to get our routine back, but I sure have loved having my boy around so much this summer.  He definitely would be happy if summer was longer!  So, we have bought new shoes, ordered uniforms and are frantically getting through the summer math. Just this week, I've gotten the approval to start three new projects.  It's crazy to think I might finally be in a place to put clients on a waiting list.  What?!  I have finally come to realize I can only do so much and being too busy isn't best for my clients.  With that said, I've got a few larger projects coming to an end and I can't wait to share them with you.  My Bird Dog Point project is almost done.  We are waiting on a few tables to arrive, as well as those last few perfect accessories.  Here are a few progress photos from my last installation...

I've been working on a kitchen renovation these last few months and I can not wait to share the final results!  The before and afters are going to be amazing.  We took a small kitchen and bathroom (that was also the laundry room) and created all brand new spaces.  My client wanted storage and we gave it to her.  Here's a quick before and after shot of one area we totally transformed.  As you can see, it used to be a very tiny eat-in kitchen nook.  We enlarged the opening into her dining room and added new cabinetry. Beautiful and functional storage, with a wine fridge.

My Bucklake project will be gearing back up in a few weeks.  We had a mad rush in June and July preparing for a party my client was having.  We remodeled a powder bath and added tons of wall decor and accessories throughout her main living spaces.  It was tough, but we did it.  The next phase is ordering new furniture for three rooms, as well as window treatments, lighting and rugs.  I will have lots to share with you on this as we finalize all the details.  Here are a few before and after shots from my install last month.

So, there is the latest of what has been going on at JTD.  I'll leave you with a photo from our vacation two weeks ago.  If you are looking for a resort, I highly recommend Hammock Beach on the east coast of Florida.  Our room was nice, Wes loved the pool and I loved the beach.  And having someone bring you drinks and food, while you lounge around wasn't too bad either.

Balmoral {take one}

  I'm excited to share a new series on my latest project, Balmoral.  This project holds a special place in my heart because it's my sister's house in Arkansas.  I gave you a little sneak peak here on how the house currently looks.  It's really beautiful (on the outside) and the floor plan is perfect for their family, we just need to make it their own and the first item to change on the list is the WALLS!  My sister is a huge wallpaper fan and we started selecting those this past weekend.  Here is one of four we plan on using.  Sorry for such a small photo!

My sister is really embracing bold color in this house and indigo seems to the common thread throughout the main rooms.  We are even thinking a very light shade of blue (on the gray side) for the main color of the house.  Paint samples are starting today, so we'll see which one makes the cut.  In addition to the walls, we are replacing all of the lighting.  Every last fixture!  We met yesterday to start looking at possible choices.

We really liked this one - her husband's reaction was "it looks like it belongs on a cruise ship" and I think he could be right!

This one is definitely a contender, just need to figure out the perfect spot!

I'm happy to be sharing this journey with all my readers.  You also may have noticed a new look to my blog.  I have moved it over to a different platform, so I'm still getting used to it.  The photos are done differently and the layout is more difficult, but I'm getting there.  Please forgive my growing pains and all the different fonts!

Thanks for reading,

Jennifer

Hamster vs. Wheel

So much going on around here, some days it's hard to keep up!  I'm so blessed to be busy and even more blessed to have such great clients.  This week I took one of those clients (who happens to be my niece) to the fabric store to help select fabrics for her new room.  My sister and her family are moving to Arkansas this summer and yes, I'm super sad!  To help ease my sorrow, I've jumped in feet first helping them with their new house.  It's beautiful on the outside, but the inside definitely needs work.  We have a long list, but first is paint and new light fixtures.  Oh, and getting rid of that awful Bama red in the bonus room!

The house on Bird Dog Pointe is finishing up, just in time for the parade of homes in a few weeks.  I've been working hard on putting together the design plan for the furnishings and I can't wait to present them next week.  Here's a sneak peak at a few fabrics in my design plan for the family room and the kid-friendly keeping room off the kitchen.

Finally, in addition to my client load, I'm redesigning my website, blog and business cards.  It should all be ready to go "live" next week or at least in time for the parade of homes.  Now, back to my lists!
