It’s Time to Decorate My House {take three}

As promised, I’m back with another update on how things are coming along with my own home. Thankfully I was able to get most everything done on my list in time for my family to visit in early May. My only child successfully graduated from FSU and we had an amazing weekend celebrating him. Then, the following weekend my husband and I flew across the country for an Alaskan cruise. I highly recommend it if you’ve never been. Being away from work for over a week was hard, but worth it.

In January, my upstairs guest bedroom only had a headboard that I had ordered from Amazon while we were building the house. Because it’s the larger of the two secondary bedrooms, I knew I wanted to have a king bed up here. I had purchased some bedding items, but that was all I had done in nine months. It was truly an “out of sight, out of mind” room.

Since my last update, I installed the nightstands and lamps. I will eventually style the bed a little differently with higher quality fabrics and add in some layers. I got the custom shower curtain hung in the bathroom. I love the way the fabric is seamless with the wallpaper. It reminds me of my Nanny’s house. She always had a room or two where the wallpaper matched the fabric. My guests only had nice things to say about how the rooms functioned for them. You truly only need a comfortable bed, a cool air conditioner and good water pressure to keep your guests happy!

The other room on my list was the dining room. It was a true labor of love getting the window treatments made. My workroom was very patient with me as we came up with the perfect design. I had them make just one treatment so I could bring it home and make sure the style and measurements were exactly what I wanted. Window treatments are a big investment, but what they do for a room is immeasurable. In true transparency, I spent about $4,000 for mine and that is with my trade pricing. Worth every penny!

In addition to these rooms, I got the downstairs guest bathroom finished. Which I shared in my last update. I love that little bathroom so much and I’m sure it’s because I chose to go bold with the wallpaper. Oh, and I also got the art light installed above my painting. With a little help from YouTube and ChatGPT, we got it hung and didn’t burn the house down or get electrocuted. This wall brings me so much joy each time I walk in!

I really wanted to get my bedroom going, but I still can’t find a bed that checks all the boxes. I did buy a vintage dresser at our local antique shop this week, so stay tuned to see what I do with it. This room is going up to the top of the list and I’m giving myself a holiday deadline. Let the games begin!
