Easy Design Tips Anyone Can Do

I’ve been tackling a lot of projects around my house over the past year - some big, some small. I know that decorating your home doesn’t come easy to most people, so I thought I would share some of my favorite design tips with you guys. They are simple and budget-friendly!

{PAINT YOUR FRONT DOOR}
Giving your front door a new coat of paint can do wonders for your home’s curb appeal, but here’s something most people don’t do. Paint your new color on BOTH sides of your door! I love having that touch of blue in my entry foyer, which is otherwise pretty neutral. I selected Seaworthy by Sherwin Williams. It’s the perfect shade of blue and works well with lots of exterior color palettes.

{BUY FRESH FLOWERS & PLANTS}
I am not a green thumb and can’t keep most of my plants alive, but I’ve decided to put Tallahassee Nurseries in my household budget and just replace what dies. I buy fresh flowers at the grocery store most weeks and keep a small arrangement on my kitchen table, in addition to a few tabletop plants. I recently purchased a large floor plant for my breakfast room and love having it there. Having something alive really does bring a little “life” to your room. If I ever hit the lottery one day, I’ll have flowers delivered every week!

{USE A PRETTY TRAY}
If you’ve followed me for a while, you know this might be my favorite design tip. I have a tray on my coffee table, my kitchen counter and two in my bathroom. Trays help contain the clutter and make a lot of small things look more organized. Where could you use a tray?

{HANG A NEW SHOWER CURTAIN}
In my opinion, ready-made shower curtains are always too short and not full enough, so I’ve come up with an easy way to give your bathroom a more custom look. For my hall bathroom, I purchased two ready-made drapery panels at Target and put them on a rod separate from the liner. The panels are 84” long, instead of the standard 72”. I had the best intentions of having them sewn together, but they are still just hanging there with a small gap. I’ll get to it someday. :)
